Ford is gearing up for some big changes in Europe, and one of the automaker’s iconic names might be making a surprising comeback. The American brand has been struggling with market share in Europe lately. With models like the Fiesta and Focus already discontinued and vehicles like the Explorer and Capri underperforming, Ford is under pressure to rethink its strategy if it wants to stay relevant in the region.

Reports suggest that Ford is planning to revive the beloved Fiesta, but not in the way you might expect. Instead of building it in-house or partnering with Volkswagen, the new model will likely share its platform with the Renault 5, coming from Renault’s ElectriCity complex in France. This is a notable shift, as Ford had previously teamed up with Volkswagen for new European models. The next-generation Fiesta is expected to hit the market around early 2028, featuring unique styling and slightly different powertrain outputs compared to the Renault 5 E-Tech, making it a Ford through and through, not just a rebadged Renault.

But the Fiesta isn’t the only model in the works. Ford is also preparing a new generation of the Puma, the subcompact crossover that has been on sale since 2019. A facelifted version appeared nearly two years ago, and in December 2024, Ford launched a battery-electric variant called the Puma Gen-E. Rumor has it that the current Puma may be retired in the next few years to make way for a completely new model.

While spy shots of the upcoming Puma haven’t appeared yet, Russian website Kolesa has created CGI renderings to give us an idea of what the new crossover might look like. According to these images, the new Puma will be smaller than a Bronco Sport but adopt a boxier, more rugged design compared to today’s high-riding version. The styling looks sharp and modern, making the Puma appear more like a practical yet stylish urban SUV.

Of course, it’s important to remember that this is still speculative. No one outside Ford’s development team knows exactly how the next-gen Puma will look, what features it will offer, or how its performance will compare to the current model. However, the renderings give a promising glimpse of what could be a very appealing new crossover for city drivers and small SUV enthusiasts alike.

With both the new Fiesta and Puma on the horizon, Ford seems to be doubling down on compact, efficient, and electrified vehicles in Europe.
