Volkswagen is getting ready to expand its electric car lineup in China, and a new electric sedan could be on the way soon. Recent renderings shared by Russian outlet Kolesa give us an early look at what this upcoming EV sedan might look like when it reaches production.

This new sedan is closely related to the Volkswagen ID. Unyx 08, an electric crossover that was first previewed as the ID?EVO Concept at last year’s Shanghai Auto Show. That concept later turned into a real production model, and now it seems VW is planning to use the same design and technology for a sedan version as well.

A Quick Look Back at the ID. Unyx 08

The ID. Unyx 08 is a fully electric crossover developed specifically for the Chinese market. It was created by W Anhui, a joint venture between Volkswagen and JAC Motors, with additional technology support from Chinese EV maker Xpeng.

This electric crossover is scheduled to go on sale in China in 2026. Volkswagen has already confirmed that it is not coming to the US or Europe, as it was designed only for the People’s Republic.

In terms of design, the ID. Unyx 08 stays very close to the original concept car. It features:

• Strong and muscular body lines
• A sharp, V-shaped front nose
• Frameless doors and flush door handles
• A rising beltline toward the rear
• Slim rear lights and an illuminated VW logo
  

Size-wise, it is quite large. It measures about 197 inches long, making it sit between the Tiguan and Atlas in Volkswagen’s lineup.

Strong Performance and Long Driving Range

Under the skin, the ID. Unyx 08 uses an 800-volt electrical system, which allows for faster charging and better performance. It will be available with both:

• A single-motor setup
• A dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup
  

The most powerful version is expected to produce around 496 horsepower, which is very strong for an electric SUV. According to Chinese test standards (CLTC), its driving range could exceed 435 miles (700 km) on a full charge. The battery uses lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) technology, though its exact capacity has not yet been revealed.

The Electric Sedan: What the Renderings Show

While the ID. Unyx 08 is already official; this story is really about its sedan sibling. Volkswagen has not yet shown the real car, but the new renderings give us a good idea of what to expect.

The images were created by Nikita Chuyko from Kolesa, and they clearly borrow many design elements from the crossover. The sedan features:

• Similar front and rear lighting designs
• Clean and smooth body lines
• A fastback-style roofline
• Wheels inspired by the ID. Unyx 08
  

From the side, the car looks sleek and modern. The rear design stands out the most, giving the sedan a bold and futuristic look. However, the front end may be a bit too unusual for some tastes, and it might not appeal to everyone.

China-Only Model, for Now

Even if this sedan ends up looking exactly like the renderings, most buyers outside China won’t have much to worry about. Just like the ID. Unyx 08, this electric sedan is expected to be sold only in China.
